West Siberian Peasants# Attitude to the State Institutions and Officials at the Beginning of the 20th Century

Problem of the relationship between the West Siberian Peasants and the State Institutions is studied. The province level of authorities is taken into account. The special emphasis is given to the studies of the Peasant chiefs# functions (an uyezd level) and how the peasantry treated them.

The tendency to get out of the officials# hand underlines the traditional desire of peasants to isolate from the authorities in order to solve their problems independently. On the other hand the government was eager to extend their influence and to toughen the control over the country community.
