Extraction of metal ions from ammoniac solutions by 1-alkyl-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones

Using the quantum-chemical method MNDO-PM3 the structure and acid properties of 1-alkyl-3-methyl-5-hydroxypyrazoles (AlkMP) (alkyl = C4H9-, C5H11-, C6H13-(HMP), C7H15-(HepMP)) and 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-hydroxypyrazol (PMP) has been investigated. The partition AlkMP between water and chloroform has been determined at various concentration of ammonia in extractive system. The value of partition coefficient falls with increase of pH of water phase. Studying of metal ammoniates partition has shown, that only copper(II) and silver are extracted in an appreciable degree. The structure of copper(II) complex # CuL2 is in agreement with the cation-exchange extraction mechanism. HepMP and HMP have approximately similar extractive properties. Efficiency of PMP is much lower.
